Lower Elementary: Grades 1-3

Teaching at this level emphasizes character recognition, helping students develop an understanding of stroke order and character structure. Lessons vividly explain the sound, shape, and meaning of each character while introducing radicals. Pinyin is used as a supporting tool to assist with accurate pronunciation and tone recognition, helping students transition into reading short passages and stories and cultivating their interest in learning Chinese.

Vocabulary and sentence structures are taught progressively—students first listen and read, then speak and write. Based on pictures, objects, or text readings, they learn to compose a few sentences, building a foundation for future writing.

Students are encouraged to read aloud and memorize passages.

Lessons are built around different real-life themes to help students learn about Chinese culture, practice language skills, and strengthen their ability to recognize characters, form sentences, observe, read, and speak.
